Don't stack it on this festive season!
It's a dimly lit room with the smell of fried chicken and spilt beer in the air. Goodbye fitness and healthy living *sighs* here comes 1kg on my butt, I can feel it already. Carol is in the corner. She's yelling at Andy for spilling beer all over her new outfit she'd bought specifically for the party. Whilst the payroll ladies are finally letting their hair down for once this year. Sound familiar to anyone? It's the dreaded family or work Christmas party.
From my corner I can't help but feel slightly anxious. I've been working hard on my fitness and health. And to be quite frank with you, parties like this just stress me out. I'm constantly thinking I've stuffed up my progress or I can't enjoy myself because I've worked so hard to get here that why would I blow it all on this party. There are 2 options running through my head at this point. One, write myself off or two, sneakily exit stage left and no one will know any different.

But let's get one thing straight! You're allowed to enjoy yourself! There are simple tricks that you can put in place to ensure not only can you have a good time but you won't completely screw up your health and wellbeing.

- 1Increase your quantity of training - Add an extra 1-3 sessions to your training routine over this period.
- 2Drink more water - Yes you hear it all the time but adding a glass of water between alcoholic beverages will keep you hydrated and decrease your qty or alcohol consumption
- 3Don't write yourself off - Festive functions may make you feel this is the easiest option of getting through the pain of being present but drinking to excess will also increase your unhealthy calorie consumption.
- 4Wear clothes that make you feel comfortable - When you feel comfortable you'll feel more confident. Dress to impress sure... but also be yourself! Own your space.
- 5Plan what time you're going to leave - It's not being rude, but if you're truely concerned about your health and you feel anxious, knowing the time when you're leaving allows you a quick exit.
- 6Schedule your social events - Be prepared and have a plan. Have a limit of events per week. This will help to control your calorie intake by limiting food and drinks to a period of time rather than all night.
- 7Do your research - If you're going to eat and drink keep a mental tally of what you've consumed so you can gauge your overall calorie intake. This will help you understand what exercise is required to burn off your enjoyment over the following days.
Keeping on track is 100% possible.
If you're keen to stay on track you can. You need to skip the excuses and keep up with your training. Making smart choices for your meals throughout the week can also assist in keeping your calories in control. We find the key to enjoying the festive season is just maintenance. Don't try and go on any crazy diets over this period. Love your family, enjoy catching up with friends and keep the memories close.
