It’s salad season!
With the warmer weather fast approaching (with some states already experiencing extreme heat) there is nothing better than sitting down to a meal when it’s cool, refreshing and 100% satisfying.
Most people tend to use the saying “You Don’t Make Friends with Salad”… well I’m here today to smash that myth! Not only are salads extremely healthy, but they are also packed full of nutrients and can be extremely yummy! One of the best things about salads is that they are usually also really quick and easy to make.
So if you’re someone that hates spending heaps of time in the kitchen this is a good step in the right direction to eating healthy and keeping on track to your promises and goals in your life.
Here’s our top 4 reasons why we reckon salads are pretty top notch!
1: You can change them up with very little fuss. Most things that you have hiding in that scary food container at the bottom of your fridge can be used in salads. So pull something different out and change up your salads for a bit of extra fun.
2: If you are wanting to shed some weight salads are key to helping you on your way to your goals. Usually all very low caloric intake, let the flavours of the good food you’re eating fill your mouth with enjoyment. Try to keep any added salad dressings to a minimum as this is where you will find added calories and sugar that you don’t need.
3: Help to get your daily recommended amounts of veggies by eating salad. Salads don’t have to be just lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber. Try adding some of your favourite veggies to bulk out your meal, for example add some broccoli, cauliflower or cubed pumpkin for some extra flavour and pizzazz.
4: Add grains to your salads for your good healthy fats. Things like sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, some crushed up walnuts are all a good source of healthy fats. They will also help to keep you feeling fuller for longer. So they are a win win!
